I was just about to lunge upon my third kill when I heard a strange noise coming from the left of me. It was Roxiri, she had just destroyed the neck of a guard in some wolf form, but was now throwing up because of the blood in her normal form. Looks like fun is over. I couldn't help but smile as I slowly made my way towards her and knelt down next to her, placing my hand on her shoulder, completely oblivious to the guards around us and the danger we were in. ”You silly girl, you didn't have to push yourself so far.” Although my choice of words sounded somewhat mocking, my voice was soft, like an older brothers or something. I closed my eyes as I waited for the young shapeshifter to gather herself back up again. The guards were slowly started to retreat backwards as another array of arrows filled the inn. But this time, something caught my attention. It was a smell that I hadn't smelt in the area before. Smoke. My eyes widened in surprise as I turned around to face the quickly building flames. ”Shit..” I cussed to myself as I quickly returned to Roxiri, hoping she would be able to move soon. If she wasn't I'd have no choice but to carry her.
”Roxiri, come on, we have to go, it's getting dangerous now” I threw myself in front, well, behind, Roxiri as a bottle of liquor behind her suddenly exploded into flames, sending extremely hot fire and shards of glass hurtling everywhere. I winced a little as the flames singed my back and thousands of tiny pieces of glass embedded themselves deep into my back.

I closed my eyes to the scene around me for a moment, making myself calm down. It had been self defense because if I hadn't done it, he would have killed me, I reasoned. My breathing turned back to normal instead of the slightly rushed pace it had been at. I didn't open my eyes until Kuri was suddenly next to me and said something. I didn't look at the body, the blood, or mostly anything else. In an odd state of calm, I sat up and looked at Kuri. A smell found its way to me and I held back a small cough. Fire? Smoke? I looked around, trying to figure out who had set something on fire.
I quickly looked away because most of what I saw was gore. My stomach was in knots but at least there was nothing left in it. But then I saw the flames and slightly panicked in my head. Why were so many people trying to kill Kuri? They were trying so hard to kill him that they had even set an inn on fire! Me eyes widened as I heard something hidden in the background noise. Something exploded behind me yet nothing hit me as I turned to look at Kuri again. Panic was clear in ym eyes, but so was something else. "You get out of here! There's someone upstairs!" I yelled, my earlier panic forgotten. Only moments after I finished talking did I take off. The fire was quickly growing bigger.
My form changed into a small cat as I scrabbled through the panicked gaurds and humans, darting for the stairs. Some people made grabs at me or tried to hit me with something, only a few people actually able to. I sprinted up the stairs, mind in a haze. After reaching the second floor I turned back to my normal form, rushing towards the sound of someone calling out. Though the fire hadn't spread up to the second floor yet, smoke was quickly filling it before it could fill the first floor. I opened the door and quickly grabbed the person inside. After pausing for any other noises (there weren't any, seeing as most people were out at this time of day) I looked around for an exit. Stairs or window? Hearing noises coming from the stairs as guards probably came after me, I quickly decided on window. I kicked it out easily, a small bundle safely in my arms. I looked out of it, seeing that people had surrounded the building. Maybe I should have thought this plan through? The small dog in my grasp howled for a moment before I told him to hush. Now what?

I don't know why Roxiri had suddenly told me to run, but I smiled. She truly was an interesting person. I was glad that I had the chance to meet her. She suddenly darted off somewhere in the form of a small cat, I guessed to go save some poor soul that had gotten trapped somewhere else in the inn. What a kind hearted person. I slowly stood up and looked at the flames. It would a hurt a little, but it was the quickest route of escape at the moment, and I knew that Roxiri would be in trouble if she took the same route as me, which meant I'd have to get down there before she did, so that I'd be able to take stop her from killing herself either from the fall, all from the number of soldiers that were waiting for us.
I closed my eyes as I ran straight for the window and through the fire, making sure to cover my face with my arms. I jumped out of the window and grinned as I spread my arms out again. I saw the looks of surprise on the soldiers before as I fell to the ground. Another volley of arrows hit me as I landed, and although they stung at first, I ignored them and drew my sword.
”Now, be good little mortals and just stay over there before I slaughter you all.” I looked up at the Inn behind me, hoping to spot Roxiri, but when I did, I was a little shocked. She was already at the window, holding what seemed to be a small dog in her arms, and she was a lot higher that what I had anticipated. She would need my help to land safely, I was also worried about the fact that I heard more bowstrings being pulled on, which would be seriously problems for the young shapeshifter right about now.

The dog in my arms whining quietly, probably not used to being held without moving for a long time. The fall below me wasn't a problem because I landed much worse ones, even in this form. My mind was more catlike then any other animal and I knew how to land it, even with my arms full. No, the problem was that the people in the alley. They weren't normal people, but guards and a few archers that could shoot through the first story windows. There was also the problem of people who seemed to be yelled to go up the stairs after me to other people. The glass from the window hit the ground quickly and I couldn't pull away fast enough. A few arrows dug themselves where my face had been moments before, now bedded in the wooden frame.
I looked back out for a moment, hoping to find some way down. Kuri burst into my line of sight and he said something, though the archers paid no attention to him. Bowstrings from somewhere else snapped and I ducked back inside while arrows wizzed by. I cursed quietly something Papa wouldn't be proud of as I heard the shuffle of someone on the stairs. No doubt the fire had taken most of the first floor and now they had to decide whether to just get out or to actually go after the girl. After a few moments, I heard someone rushing up the stairs. I cursed again, looking from the doorway to the broken window. If I was alone I could have turned to fire myself. But I had a life in my hands and I wasn't going to sacrifice it for my life.
As someone stepped into the doorway, I looked at the armed gaurd with surprise. How had he gotten here to quickly? I coughed, the smoke really getting to me by now. The puppy was sent into a coughing fit as well and the gaurd smirked, drawing a sword. I put one of my sleeves against my face, using one arm to hold the dog. I coughed again, having forgotten to hold my breath. This whole time I had been breathing in the gray smoke, which seemed to have gotten thicker. The gaurd started walking towards me slowly, as if enjoying the time it took. I glared at him now and continued to hold my sleeve to my face. The gaurd seemed unaffected by the gas around him, simply smirking at me. I bit my lip, eyes slowly filling with tears. Was I gonna die here? The smoke made me dizzy and I wobbled slightly, hand holding onto a bed post for support. I couldn't fight like this and it would be suicide to jump out of the window or to stay there.
I was out of options.
