"Once upon a Time..."
"Look out!"
I ducked my head under as something whooshed past, a splash coming up in the water. We all looked up after a few moments, including myself, checking the sky for anything else. The sky itself was light blue, holding not even a cloud in it. In the confusion those who weren't in the river already looked to the water to see a fish that hadn't been there before. I looked at it, waist deep in the clear water. It started to swim like a shot toward me and I panicked, running in the muddy bedded river. Someone shot out a hand to pull me up as the fish collided with my leg.
I fell onto the land, high pitched noise coming from my mouth. My ankle burned like I had left it in a bonfire all day. The keening coming from my throat wasn't heard though, as all the other people in my squad stared at the fish. I had been the only one in the river, trailing after the others but now they all moved towards the water, staring creepily.
I opened my mouth to scream at them, to tell them that the fish had done something to my ankle. The keening continued until my throat closed up, breaths cut short. My vision went hazy as one of the members of my squad bent down to the water. The fish swam up innocently, poking it's head out of the water. And even at that moment, my vision going fuzzy and dark, I heard what the fish said.
"Come swim with me~"
"The end...?"Roxiri awoke covered in sweat, skin hotter then it should have been. Where was she? Her body was sluggish and skin hot to the feel. The shifter's throat was raw and her voice came out in a croak-like state when she tried to use it. But she couldn't be sick. How was she supposed to continue to travel like this? She shuddered in coldness, wondering how she could feel so cold while her skinned burned. The female slowly sat up, finding herself to be lying on the forest floor not far from the waterfalls. Her clothes were rumpled from the moss bed and she just overall felt like shit.
Her short silvery hair was messed up, spiking up and flattened in random places. Slowly she stood, feeling better by the fact that at least her male-like new form had probably kept her stronger against this sickness then her former one or any animal form. But still, Roxiri's body felt a bit woozy as she began to walk from her moss bed towards the waterfalls. Maybe she could find a cave to hide in as she recovered. She coughed, rawing her throat further. All her sense were muffled, like she had been drugged. But no, this wasn't a drug. This was an illness. A sickness that Roxiri had no idea she had had until this morning.
After a few paces the falls were in view. Roxiri was too weak to try to do anything though, sitting on the slightly squishy ground with her back to a trunk. She was shallowly breathing through her mouth, mentally cursing whatever or whoever had gotten her so weak. She was in a bad mood due to this, whether the shifter realized or not. The silverette shivered once again, closing her eyes against the too bright sunlight of the falls and the surrounding forest. Her mind began to drift, the shifter left vulnerable as she fell into a sleep of fever.
