12th day of the 3rd rotation of the moon in the 10th year of the Jun
I do not know were to start. I have decided to keep a record of my life from this point on. For the last sixteen years I have lived a life. I attended the local school, participated in clubs, and helped out at home, so when my father took me out today, I did not think much of it. We went to a building I had passed many times before, however I had never noticed it before. Before we entered my father told me he was letting me on a family secret. I did not know at that time our family had any secrets. I followed my father into the building wondering what the secret was. Inside the building was a bar, something that I was not expecting. I looked at my father not understanding why I was brought to this place. If my father wanted to go to a bar we could have gone to any bar in the city. I looked around the bar to see what was so special about it. Apart from all the occupants of the bar staring at me it looked like a normal bar. My father told me to take a seat at an empty stool until he was done talking to someone in the bar.
I approached an empty stool and sat down. I looked down at the counter feeling everyone's stares on my back. I felt like I did not belong here and I wanted to leave. I looked at my father and saw that he was still having a conversation with a man that I did not know. I sighed and looked at my arms. Just then I felt someone tap my right shoulder. I turned my head to see who tapped me. There sitting on the stool beside mine was a man smiling at me. I smiled back and returned my attention back to my hands. The man then asked me what I was doing in such a place. I told him that my father brought me here for some reason that I did not know. He laughed at my response and turned to the others and told them that I was the new recruit. I told him he was wrong and then got up and walked to my father. I was not going to spend another minute here. I interrupted my father's conversation and told him that was leaving. I then made my way to the door, but I found the way blocked..
All the men that were sitting at tables were now blocking my path. I asked them to move, but they would not budge. At that time I did not understand why I was not able leave. Losing my patience I tried to force my way through the crowd.. Instead I was forced back and was thrown on the ground. I got up and sat down on one of the empty seats. If they were not going to let me leave I decided to wait until they left the bar. The man who had talked to me earlier sat beside me again. That man had begun to annoy me. I just wanted to be left alone. He smiled again and told me that if I wanted to leave I would have to fight my way out. I told him that I would not fight for such a reason. He laughed as if he was amused at my response. My father then made his way behind his bar and poured himself a drink. I got up and made my way to the back of the bar. There must be a way out the back of the bar. I walked behind the bar and found a door. I made a dash for the door and jumped through it before the others noticed my idea.
I found myself in the alley behind the bar. I made my way to the streets and saw the man with the smile standing there. He told me that I passed. I looked at him with confusion. I did not know that I was being tested or for what reason I would be tested. He then grabbed my hand and pulled me back into the bar. Everyone was back in there seats, however this time they were not focusing their attention on me. The man took me to the table my father was sitting at. I sat down not knowing what they wanted from me. My father was the one to break the silence. He started off by saying that he was sorry for what just happened, but everyone had to go through the test to see if they chose between making a scene or get out without people noticing them. It was not the best test, but the man responsible of training was out on a job and the test had to be done before the start of the new year. I looked at my father with a blank expression, I had nothing to say to him..
Just then a man entered the bar and made his was to the counter. I noticed the bartender for the first time. Without being aware of those around him the man said that he needed and assassin as fast a possible, no matter what the cost. I turned around and looked at the man. Why would someone say something like that out loud. I looked back at my father looking for an explanation. He took a deep breath and started a to explain to me what he really did for a living. He told me that he was an assassin and that I had just been accepted to join the guild. I was about to refuse when the man with the smile returned to the table. He sat down and pulled out a pocket knife. He handed me the knife and said it was a welcoming gift. He then said in a solemn tone that I had no choice but to join the guild. I looked at my father for a way out, but I did not find help there. I was going to be an assassin whether I wanted to be one or not. I took the knife and put it in my pocket.
I got up and told my father that I had to assist my brothers today. I got up and made my way to the door not waiting for father to join him. Right as I opened the door I heard the smiling man say that I was to be here tomorrow after I finished school. I nodded and made my way home. Like I would actually come back to such a crazy place. I opened the door and noticed that my father was home already. I was sure that I had left before my father. I was about to ask him how he got home when he placed his index finger on the lips. I understood that father did not want mother to know what he did for a living. I greeted my mother and made my way to my room. I had homework I had to do before tomorrow. I placed the pocket know on my desk hoping that I would never have to use that thing in my life. During dinner neither my father nor I said a word. My brothers did not seek assistance from me to complete their homework.
