>Human< No, it wasn't Shadow's style to hide, but he was tired of 'fighting' with the humans for every scrap of food... Not only that, but he was tired of the whole atmosphere of the city. The hustle, the bustle, occasionally it was good to just get away from it all. It was a sensory overload, and for a werewolf...or a wolf of any kind, it wasn't the best place to be for an extended amount of time.
His footfalls were nearly silent. The lake was in sight at last. A small refuge he had found before he had gone back into the city. Besides a few forest animals, no one knew about it. It was landlocked by trees all around, with only a small shore between it and the forest. It was his own secret resting area. Away from the world, a resting place, a safe haven.
His tension faded as he came to the waters and knelt beside them. This is where all his worries dropped, nothing to hunt him, nothing to fight. He was a warrior, but even a warrior knew the value of a good rest in between the wars and battles. He truly believed that this waterhole would remained undiscovered by humans for years to come, but he could be wrong.
His senses dropped to human level, a sigh leaving his lips as he gently delved his cupped hands into the river, drawing a handful of water. He brought the bounty to his mouth, sipping it slowly and with a grace that he rarely showed as a wolf.
Alex had been long from society... Who would accept a werewolf? He didn't know, and he wasn't about to go and try to find out. He was a loner, and he lived a life of solitude; his own choice. He wanted it no other way. Hatred toward those who abandoned him, and to the one who took his world away. Loathing for both wolf and man alike.
He drew his hands away as the final drop slipped away. His eyes traveled along the surface of the lake, his eyes as gentle as calm as the rest of his body. He loved this place...
He was glad for once that this one good thing had not come to an end.

Kaydence was walking through the woodlands looking around and up at the night sky. She was once again escaping from her life, she had no family, no friends, she hardly existed to the world. The only people she exists to now are the government area that her parents worked for and the lawyers who were helping with her law suit against the hospital. She pulled her coat closer, hiding her body away from the bite of the cool winter weather as she sighed. She just wanted to be a normal girl, she wanted girlfriends to go shopping with and a boyfriend to cuddle with on these cold nights. Instead she was left with dead parents and a twin brother who raped her and killed him self being the homosexual homophobe he was. She thought for a second and decided life wasn't cut out for Kaydence Moore, maybe she should just take care of herself before the world suffers from more carbon footprints and wasted space. She started walking toward the lake. I don't deserve to live... I let my family slip away while I'm still alive, I'm nothing to the world. Why should I try?

>Human< Shadow let his mind wander. His childhood seemed so far away now... A life that seemed like he had never had the chance to have. His parents... Dead so soon... They had been nice. Always paying him attention, always treating him like he was the only thing that mattered in the world. He had basked in that attention... And that was why he was so hollow after they were slaughtered.
He shook his head an let the thoughts recede. If he could ever find that wolf, he would rip out his throat. His life had been destroyed because of him... The ones he loved most taken away. He never loved again after that, not because he thought he couldn't find someone, but because he believed himself incapable of loving after that day. And those that followed.
He had lived his life away from humans after that, going close to the only to stay alive as he stole food and scavenged when stealing wasn't plausible. And it usually wasn't... He wasn't much of a hunter. It was built into him as a wolf, but he never really hunted anything for food. There had been a rabbit or two...but those had been close to death anyway, he was not experienced enough to outrun them. Not yet. But every day gave him more experience with his alternate form.
One disadvantage he had yet to get over was one that was plaguing him now. His senses were dulled in human form. He could hardly read anything off the environment, almost as if he really was human again. He could smell the trees, sure, but he couldn't sense the tentative vibrant taste on the air of the flowers, the birds in the trees above, nor any other creature in the forest. This included Kaydence. Sounds were also dulled, he could hardly make out anything at all. Rustling of the bushes was far too low for his ears to pick up... In a way it was a blessing... But Shadow had always viewed it as a curse.

Kaydence, walking toward the lake, broke out of the thick trees just a little down shore from Alex but didn't see or hear him She knelled on the ground looking at her reflection and grimaces. I'm so ugly... I just want to die.. She splashed away her reflection and stood up looking for a low branch that hung above the water. She spotted one and started climbing the tree cutting her hand and whimpering in pain, but continuing on

>Human< He heard that though.
His eyes moved to the corner of their sockets, gazing over in the direction of the sound of the splash, his head turning ever so slightly. What he saw made him freeze in place. How had they found him so soon?! He thought he had more time... Anger wiped away his thoughts. He had to leave. He couldn't be seen... No one could know.
He turned to go, glancing back over at the, girl?, one last time before leaving. Why was she climbing a tree? He growled to himself quietly because he could feel the restraint. His left foot wanted to carry him into the woods, but his right was aching to go toward the girl. Damn his luck...damn his curiosity But that wasn't all that was there... No. The animal part of him...or was it the animal part of him? Saw something in the girl. Something he liked.
He turned, moving quietly. He closed to distance between himself and the tree, staying close to the forest line, ready to run if he had to.

>Human< Did she just...? She jumped into the water...
His mouth slightly agape, he stared where she had just been and the rippling of the water where her body had collided with the lake. He waited a moment for her to surface, not moving, but when she didn't, he cursed under his breath, "God dammit!"
He ran forward, completely disregarding his clothing as he jumped into the water himself.
It didn't take long before he found her, his eyes open underneath the water. He didn't wait for her consent, he took her arm in one hand and wrapped another around her stomach and pushed off to the surface. He came up with her a moment later, moving her onto the shore.
Looking down at her, he stared at her disbelievingly. It was just his luck. A suicidal damsel in distress.

She spit out the water coughing and sat up looking at him HEY! What was that for!? She wiped her mouth and face, completely unsuccessful since she was soaking wet She looked up at the boy, obviously tall but started wondering just HOW tall. He had a pretty cute face, some worry lines but otherwise completely her taste. Instead of complaining further she just kept looking at him Why did you pull me out?

>Human< Shadow ignored the first comment, as much as it made him want to gnash his teeth together. He had just saved the ungrateful girl's life...and-.. But it was best not to dwell on anger...not when it meant switching to wolf a majority of the time. And that was something he could not show this girl.
He met her gaze as she stared up at him. She was short, pretty in her own way, beautiful even now soaking wet, and...- was that thought his own? He nearly growled at himself. No. His thoughts would not go there. Never.
To distract himself, he answered her question in a manner that suggested that it really didn't matter that much. "I pulled you out because you didn't come back up for a while. I assumed you were planning on staying down there and I wasn't about to witness a death I could have prevented."
His voice was slightly scratchy, a bit distorted, mainly because of his recent switch from being a wolf, but he attempted to hide it as best he could.

She looked away and at the water almost longingly. She was glad he helped her but she still wanted to die I still want to die... Her eyes flew wide and she stood up and walked away, not saying another word. She didn't realize it but she used her powers on the boy, she could hear what she just thought. She kept her eyes away from him so he wouldn't see the purple tint. This is why your not supposed to try suicide, if someone saves you, your powers just happen. She starts walking into the trees, as fast as she can, trying to escape the questions she knew were going to come up.

>Human< Shadow watched the girl go, his own eyes opening wider. She had put a thought in his head. He himself would never have such a ridiculous thought. He had never thought about dying that much either. He was mostly busy with the stay alive part. What could he do? Nothing. She was walking back into the forest again and he would soon be by himself at the lake again.
When he was sure that she was gone, he turned to his own clothes, drenched with water from the lake for absolutely no reason. He had saved her life only for her to still want to die. He shook his head in frustration and took his clothes off, leaving them up on a tree branch to dry out.
He then shifted, (taking on last glance back to make sure she really was gone) and walked to the edge of the water and sat down on his haunches, looking out over it again. That was why he didn't do relationships... He couldn't handle the drama. Loving someone no matter what they did...or even loving someone at all.
Shadow sighed and tried to come to terms with what just happened and to start to forget her like he did everyone else.

She climbed a tree not too far from the shore. She held onto the tree and started crying. She felt horribly for leaving the boy that saved her behind without a thank you, because now that she thought about it she didn't want to die. He just saved her and he didn't know who she even was. You still there? She waited for a response and looks at the almost but not quite full moon. It was beautiful. It almost reminded her of spending the nights that she used to sneak out of her house to sit on the cliff above the shore. At that time she knew people so she would meet her boyfriend there and make wishes about the future, at that time she also didn't know about her powers. One night however she and her boyfriend were sitting on the cliff and she heard randomly in Harley's voice (her current boyfriend at that time) Damn I can't wait till I get laid by this bitch, I'm sick of cheating cuz this whore won't suck my dickNaturally she did not know that he thought it so she laughed and playfully pushed him claiming he was so funny. Harley then asked her what she was talking about. She then quoted him and he said that he didn't say anything. She got up, said it was over and walked away But Kay! I love your tits! She then slapped him and walked away for good. Now she was far more mature, knew how to handle her powers but every time she was in a position like this she would think back to that night

>Wolf< Was that? No...not her. She was supposed to be gone! He turned, eyes traveling along the shore line, searching the trees and waters for any sign of her. There she was, halfway down the lake. A growl rose from his lips and muzzle. No...
Yes...
He moved to the trees nearby him, moving within them, watching her from his cover. He could not let her know that he was a werewolf... No one could know. He would be hunted... The beauty of the moon was not lost on him, after all, he was a wolf...but, unfortunately, his mind was distracted by the thought of everyone knowing about him being a werewolf.
He had kept it secret all this time. He had kept himself separated from society. He would not stop now. To let one know was to let them all know... No matter how he felt for her... Did he feel for her? Irrelevant.
He laid close to the ground, trying to appear as unnoticeable as possible. It wasn't hard. His fur was black after all.

She shifted a little on how she was sitting ~sigh~ I'm sorry I really didn't mean to be mean... I just don't like people knowing about this. There are usually so many questions that I don't have answers to and It's all about painful memories and all that crap. So I'm sorry. She moved to a thicker pat of the tree branch and hugged her knees shivering. It was getting cold out, especially since she was wet. She decided to try and find the boy to apologize to his face but waited a bit to see how he responded to her statements

>Wolf< Shadow thought about not answering, but he had already answered once, and she would expect another reponse, so he went ahead and replied again.
It's okay. Whatever your reasons...everyones different. I don't mind that you've got a gift. It doesn't bother me. I've seen enough strange things. It just unnerved me a little bit.
He wouldn't tell her why it unnerved him, nor did he move from his current spot. He wasn't aware of her desire to go find him to apologize in person, or he might have used the time he had to shift back, but he was focusing on hiding at the moment.
Sometimes he wished things weren't so hard. But he had to deal with it. He had become a werewolf, feared and isolated from a majority of society.
